Bequests and donations

Make a donation or bequest to the Fondation Abbé Pierre
with full exemption from inheritance or transfer tax

A lifetime gesture

You can donate a property, an object of value or a significant sum of money to the Foundation. The donation is set up by a notary (as full ownership or temporary usufruct).

An inheritance with heart

You can also choose to take out life insurance and designate the Foundation as a beneficiary; your insurer, bank, the Caisse d’Epargne or the Banque Postale will help you set up this contract.

A gift that lives on

Through a bequest, your generosity continues past your lifetime. There are three types of bequests: the residuary legacy, the general legacy and the individual legacy. You can at any time choose to cancel your lifetime gesture.

A reform to note!

Nearly 200 articles of the Civil Code, virtually unchanged since 1804, were amended by the Act of 23 June 2006 and entered into force on 1 January 2007. This reform focuses on three guidelines:

  • Accelerate, simplify and render more secure the settlement of estates;
  • Increase the freedom of disposition;
  • Adapt the law to the new family configuration.

A plus for the heirs

The amount of a donation made by the heirs, donees or legatees of an estate to a foundation recognised for its work on behalf of the public for housing can now be deducted from the inheritance base.

Patrimonial properties management

In 2006, the Foundation received 144 dwellings through bequests and donations.

Some of them were restored, others were sold to associations that use them to house underprivileged persons in return for a low rent.

The profits from such sales are added to our resources so that we can fund other projects.

An example in Saint-Étienne:

In Saint-Étienne (Loire), a 45 m2 flat located on the third floor of this townhouse was sold in January 2006 to Pact de la Loire to house low-income people.

This dwelling was one of three flats the Foundation received by bequest: the Foundation sold two of them and kept the third one, which is currently occupied by an elderly tenant.

Your donations are tax deductible

According to the french law, 75% of your donations to the Fondation Abbé Pierre are tax deductible, up to 510 euros.

Any amount above 510 euros is deductible at 66%, up to a maximum of 20% of your income. Upon receipt of your donation, the Foundation will issue a tax receipt for your next income tax return.

A member since 1997 of the Charter Committee, our Foundation is voluntarily subject to this organisation’s supervision regarding compliance with its commitment to transparency: the Fondation Abbé Pierre’s certification has been renewed regularly since it became a member.
